How to use the verbs well
Do not choose a higher-level verb simply because it sounds more impressive. Match the verb to the real workplace behaviour. If someone only needs to identify a hazard, “identify” may be better than “evaluate”. If they need to make a judgement between options, use a verb such as “assess”, “justify” or “recommend”.
Three checks for a good objective
- Can you observe or assess the behaviour?
- Does the task reflect what the learner does at work?
- Can the assessment actually produce evidence of it?
