How to upload a SCORM course to Moodle

Export a tested SCORM ZIP from your authoring tool and confirm which standard your Moodle site accepts. Keep the ZIP intact; do not unzip and re-zip it with an extra parent folder.

Decide what should count as completion before creating the activity: viewing content, reaching the end, passing an assessment or a combination.

1. Turn editing on in the target Moodle course.
2. Add an activity or resource and choose SCORM package.
3. Give the activity a clear learner-facing name.
4. Upload the SCORM ZIP in the package area.

If the package is rejected, inspect the ZIP structure and manifest before changing LMS settings.

Review display mode, number of attempts, grading method and any mastery or pass settings. These should match the rules defined in the authored course.

A common source of confusion is having a course report one pass mark while Moodle applies another grading expectation. Record the agreed pass mark in your release notes.

Moodle activity completion is separate from what the SCORM package reports. Configure the activity so Moodle waits for the status you actually want, such as completed or passed.

• Complete and pass the course.
• Fail an attempt.
• Exit halfway and resume.
• Check score, completion and attempt data in reports.
• Test on a normal learner account, not only as an administrator.

Keep screenshots of the expected result so later updates can be regression-tested quickly.

When replacing a package, test how the update affects existing learner attempts and resume data. Major structural changes may behave differently from a minor text correction.

For high-stakes training, use version-controlled release notes and test the updated package in a copy of the activity before replacing the live file.
